The Civil Partnership Act 2004 allows same sex couples to register their Civil Partnership.

What rights and responsibilities do civil partners have?
- A Civil Partnership will give same sex couples similar rights to married couples.
- This includes recognition under inheritance and intestacy rules, bereavement benefits and pension rights. This is not an exhaustive list - for further information please contact us.
- A Civil Partnership agreement can only be dissolved by the Court.
Where can a Civil Partnership be registered?
- Every Local Authority will provide a facility for Civil Partnership registrations.
- Other venues such as hotels can be used if they are approved for this purpose.
How do you enter into a Civil Partnership?
- Each partner must give notice to the Register Office for the area where they have resided for the last 7 days.
- At this time you will also need to give the details of where and when the Civil Partnership will take place.
- The notice period is 15 clear days prior to the date of registration.

- The Civil Partnership will be formed when both partners have signed the Civil Partnership Schedule in the presence of two witnesses and the Civil Partnership Registrar.
